Bill Gwynne Rallyschool

The task: Top motorsport driver Bill Gwynne dominated the British road rallying championships for the best part of a decade – and then decided to turn his hand to driving lessons. No L-plates here though; the Bill Gwynne Rallyschool was to teach driving techniques to Britain’s next generation of rally stars.

The aim: To meet the booming popularity of off-road competition driving with a full-time international centre for driver training, complete with gravel stages and works-standard cars.

The approach: Inside Information was called in to help create and style a state-of-the-art motorsport centre and manage a media information campaign to attract the first intake of students. Hard-hitting but economic leaflets generated a blizzard of applications.

The innovations: the Bill Gwynne Rallyschool pioneered the use of in-car and location live filming to record and analyse drivers’ techniques so they could negotiate the learning curve faster.

Since then, many thousands of people have graduated, ranging from future rally professionals who have gone on to become international champions, to ordinary motorists who simply wanted to 'have a go’. Even successful Formula 1 drivers have slipped in quietly for some tuition. . .

The result: the Bill Gwynne Rallyschool has set the standard for off-road motorsport training centres. Inside Information’s latest contribution to the school’s continuing success is the advertising tag-line: ‘You’ll be amazed at what you can do.’
